The Mission of Catholic Health Initiatives is to nurture the healing ministry of the Church, supported by education and research. Fidelity to the Gospel urges us to emphasize human dignity and social justice as we create healthier communities.



CHI Friendship is devoted to:

Core Values

Reverance
A profound spirit of awe and respect for all of creation, which affects all of our relationships. (i.e. those to self, one another and God, and acknowledging that we hold in trust all that has been given to us.)

Principles at CHI Friendship:

  • We realize and accept that our personal presence is one of the most valuable and effective role modeling tools available. Therefore, we commit ourselves to interact both professionally and personally with those we serve, other staff and customers in a courteous, kind and respectful manner.
  • Courtesy means simple good manners and respect for the feelings of the other.
  • Ridicule, criticism of a personal sort, a harsh or insulting tone of voice, crude or vulgar language, unwelcomed teasing are not acceptable behaviors.
  • Disagreement between staff members and staff and supervisor will never be expressed in the presence of the people we serve or of other staff.
  • Disagreement and conflict will always be resolved as quickly as possible, and will be addressed first only to those immediately involved.
  • Our presence will consistently be marked by a pleasant and positive demeanor, including facial expression, tone of voice, personal style of grooming and dress.
  • We honor the presence of the sacred through prayer, worship and ritual.
  • We integrate spirituality into our workplace and into our services with and for the people we serve.
  • We consider ourselves personal representatives of the mission of CHI Friendship whenever engaged in any activity required or sanctioned by CHI Friendship.
  • Both our speech and our behavior will always reflect our respect for our profession and for the company.
  • We insist on a strict observance of confidentiality, both in regard to the concerns of those we serve and of our co-workers.
  • Gossip, backbiting or the spreading of damaging personal information will not be tolerated.
  • We are aware that respect and care for the physical property of CHI Friendship is a significant component of quality service.

For a basis of trust, we are committed to moral wholeness, soundness, uprightness, honesty and sincerity.

We realize that each one of us sets the tone at the worksite:

  • We commit ourselves to honesty, and the provision of accurate and truthful information in all dealings and transactions.
  • We insist on a strict observance of confidentiality, both in regard to the concerns of those we serve and of our co-workers.
  • Disagreement between staff members, staff and supervisor will never be expressed in the presence of the individuals or of other staff.
  • Both our speech and our behavior will always reflect our respect for our profession and for the company.
  • We consider ourselves personal representatives of the mission of Friendship whenever engaged in any activity required or sanctioned by CHI Friendship.
  • We believe that an effective staff person is one who is informed, decisive, professionally competent, ready to listen and consult with others and gives regular coaching and feedback to all staff.

Feeling with others, being one with others in their sorrow and joy, rooted in the sense of solidarity as members of the human community.

Principles at CHI Friendship:

This may mean, from time to time, willingly accepting extra assignments, additional hours, temporary position transfers, a change in vacation plans, etc. in order to meet the needs of those we serve.
  • We listen sensitively to others.
  • While we value, and uncompromisingly pursue professional excellence, we neither fear nor condemn honest mistakes in the performance of our responsibilities, of our co-workers, or in the efforts of those we serve.
  • We realize that innovation in any area entails some degree of risk-taking, and that an honest mistake offers us a valuable opportunity to learn and to improve the quality of our services.

Principles at CHI Friendship
We commit ourselves to a personal and professional level of excellence in service to people with developmental disabilities which is demonstrated through:

  • Advocacy for the rights of those we serve.
  • Valuing the spiritual component of their lives.
  • Working towards greater community inclusion.
  • Being creative and proactive in assisting them to realize their dreams.
  • We promise to take suggestions, direction and coaching from a supervisor, or other staff when appropriate, with a willing acceptance and readiness to learn.
  • We value the ongoing development and maintenance of our professional skills and are constantly seeking to do so by making use of available training, seminars and literature, even beyond what is minimally required of us.
  • While we value and uncompromisingly pursue professional excellence, we neither fear nor condemn honest mistakes in the performance of our responsibilities, of our co-workers, or in the efforts of those we serve.
